Prize & Lottery Scams

Winning a prize you never entered is a red flag

Prize and lottery scams usually start with a message saying you won money, a gift card, a vacation, a phone, or another reward. The message may come by email, text, phone call, social media, or a website pop-up.

The scammer wants you to feel excited and act quickly. They may say the prize is limited-time, confidential, or ready to release once you complete one final step.

That final step is usually where the scam happens.

Why these scams work

Prize scams use pressure and excitement. The message may look harmless at first, but the goal is usually to collect money, personal information, banking details, or account access.

A scammer may ask you to pay a “processing fee,” “tax,” “delivery charge,” or “release fee.” In other cases, they may ask for your date of birth, address, banking information, credit card number, or a photo of your ID.

A real prize should not require you to send money upfront just to claim it.

Warning signs to watch for

  • You are told you won a contest you never entered

  • You are asked to pay a fee before receiving the prize

  • The message creates urgency or pressure

  • You are asked for banking details, ID, or personal information

  • The sender tells you to keep the prize confidential

  • Payment is requested by gift card, e-transfer, wire transfer, or cryptocurrency

  • The message came from an unknown number, email address, or social media account

Before you reply, get it checked

Do not click the link. Do not send payment. Do not share your ID or banking details.

Rapid Support can review prize messages, lottery emails, giveaway links, pop-ups, and suspicious forms before you respond. This is especially helpful if the message involves money, personal information, or pressure to act quickly.

If you already responded

If you already clicked a link, sent money, shared personal information, or entered banking details, do not ignore it. These scams can lead to more follow-up messages, account risk, or financial exposure.

Rapid Support can help review what happened, check the device or browser for obvious issues, and guide you on what to secure next.
